Maruti Alto with Oil Leakages Recalled in India

Maruti Suzuki has recalled nearly 6000 Altos from the Indian market. These models produced in April 2010 have faulty fuel pumps which results in oil leakages from the engine. This leaking problem was creating starting problems in the car. MSIL has instructed its 800 sales outlets and over 2700 service centres across the country to rectify the affected problem. "The vehicle, if affected, may show some starting problems. This can be easily repaired at the workshop," MSIL spokesperson was quoted saying.

Last year, Maruti had recalled over 1 lakh A-star models owing to faulty fuel pumps which posed a safety risk to the car and the passengers. Some of these models were exported to Nepal and Sri Lanka and needed attention as well.

In the current situation, Maruti is still not sure about the exact number of cars affected with the problem. According to the industry experts, MSIL had failed to address a minor issue while upgrading the engine according to the new BSIV emission norms. "The engine comes with some design changes incorporated in its core structure, which could have led to this problem. It can affect the pressure in the engine and also impact car's performance," said an auto expert, preferring not to be named.
